    This avocado lime crema recipe comes together in just minutes with 5 simple ingredients plus salt and pepper! It's dairy free, gluten free, nut free, and vegan. Serve this sauce drizzled on tacos or as a creamy dip with tortilla chips.

    Vegan Avocado Crema

    A meal isn't complete without a flavorful sauce on the side! If you're a fan of guacamole, this easy sauce recipe is for you.

    What is avocado crema?

    Mexican crema is a popular creamy and tangy condiment that's similar to sour cream. It's typically served on tacos, enchiladas, or soups due to its cool, refreshing flavor that balances out spicy dishes.

    My dairy free avocado crema is inspired by this fresh and flavorful cream sauce. It comes together with ripe avocados, vegan yogurt, lime juice, garlic, salt, and pepper. I like to add some jalapeno for a little heat and extra flavor, but that's an optional ingredient, depending on what you like.

    It's incredibly versatile. Tweak ingredients to fit your preferences and serve it on a variety of different dishes.

    We love it with breakfast tacos, air fryer tacos, stuffed sweet potatoes, taco inspired zucchini boats, and chili!

    Avocado lime crema is smooth, thick, and rich. It makes a great addition to just about any meal.

    Equipment

    • Food processor: I love my food processor for effortlessly blending sauces and dressings together. This homemade crema recipe can be stirred together by hand, but I recommend using a food processor blender to make it super smooth and creamy.

    Ingredients

    • Avocado: Make sure your avocados are ripe! It should have a slight give when you lightly squeeze it. If there's no give, it's not ripe quite yet. If it feels really mushy, it's likely overripe and spoiled.
    • Dairy-free yogurt: Due to my lactose intolerance, I use non-dairy yogurt alternatives. It's a fantastic vegan substitute for sour cream! You can use your favorite unsweetened and unflavored yogurt or plain greek yogurt.
    • Lime juice: Fresh lime juice is best for flavor but bottled lime juice works too.
    • Jalapeño: This vegan avocado crema is has just the right amount of kick but we all have our preferences. Feel free to add more jalapeno for a more intense heat, or completely omit it.
    • Garlic: This is another optional ingredient, but fresh garlic goes incredibly well with avocado.

    How to make avocado lime crema

    1. Place all ingredients in your food processor.
    2. Blend crema together, until thick and smooth.
    3. To thin out the sauce, add water 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

    Serving suggestions

    Use avocado lime crema for tacos or as an ultra-creamy dip with chips!

    Once blended, it should last for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.

    How to store leftovers

    Store avocado crema in an airtight container in the fridge.

    Note that the color may slightly darken as the avocado oxidizes. Just give it a stir before serving.

    Ingredients
      

    • 2 ripe avocados
    • 1 cup dairy free yogurt plain
    • 1 tablespoon lime juice
    • 1 garlic clove
    • ½ jalapeño chopped
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    Prevent your screen from going dark while you're cooking!

    Instructions
     

    • Place all ingredients in your food processor.
    • Blend crema together, until thick and smooth.
    • To thin out the sauce, add water 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.

    Notes

    Best served immediately, drizzled over tacos or paired with tortilla chips as a creamy dip. Store avocado crema in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Note that the color may slightly darken as the avocado oxidizes. Just give it a stir before serving.
