What is Aperol?
Aperol originated in Italy and is a bitter apéritif. It has flavors of zesty orange with herbal scents, along with a vibrant orange hue.
An Aperol Spritz is a widely-popular cocktail that combines the aperitif with sparkling wine and club soda. It’s commonly enjoyed during happy hour, brunch, or while lounging by the pool.
Aperol Spritz Ingredients
Aperol: The star of the show!
Sparkling Wine: Prosecco is an inexpensive Italian sparkling wine. It's the best and traditional choice for an authentic Aperol Spritz. If needed, you can substitute Prosecco with Cava, dry brut champagne, or even a non-alcoholic sparkling wine.
Club Soda: Most unflavored sparkling water will do just fine.
Fresh slice of orange: A classic Aperol Spritz is garnished with an orange slice!
How to Make an Aperol Spritz Cocktail at Home
This cocktail recipe couldn't be easier! You can gently stir your spritz together in a cocktail glass, however I prefer just to build the cocktail in a wine glass.
Step-by-Step Recipe
- Fill a wine glass with ice.
- Add Aperol.
- Pour in Prosecco.
- Stream in soda water.
- Stir, garnish, and serve!
There are several ways to adjust your aperol spritz to your liking.
I personally prefer mine less bitter so I do a touch more Prosecco and equal parts Aperol and soda water.
