This Texas Ranch Water Recipe couldn't be more simple! All you need for this cocktail is tequila, lime juice, and Topo Chico.
So if you're not from Texas, you may be wondering what the heck is ranch water!? It's a popular tequila based drink, similar to a skinny margarita, to enjoy during the dog days of summer.
What makes ranch water so great is how easily customizable it is. Want less tequila, do less. Prefer more lime juice, add extra!
Why You'll Love It
- Quick and easy to make
- Light and fizzy
- Ultra refreshing
Ingredients
You're going to love this 3-ingredient cocktail, here's what you need:
- Tequila: The best tequila for ranch water is blanco or silver tequila.
- Lime Juice: Fresh citrus juice is best!
- Topo Chico: This bubbly sparkling mineral water is a non-negotiable for this Texan.
How to Make Ranch Water
Fill a tall glass with ice, add tequila and fresh lime juice, then top with Topo, and enjoy!
Tajin Ranch Water
If you want to get fancy with the rim, go for it! I've had it served with no salt on the rim, a heavy duty half salted rim, and a tajin rim.
Use a fresh lime slice to wet the rim of the glass. Pour a thin layer a Tajin seasoning or chili lime seasoning onto a small plate. Press the rim into the seasoning, then twist to coat.
How to Serve Ranch Water
The best cocktail glass to use for a ranch water is a 12-ounce highball glass. However I also enjoy using my unique ball jars, vintage glasses, or even wine glass tumblers.

Recipe Tips
Don't like blanco tequila? Use reposado or mezcal instead!
Can't find Topo Chico? Use any unflavored carbonated water.
Ranch Water Variations: Feel free to put your spin on this drink! Use grapefruit juice or make it sweet by adding a little simple syrup or agave.
Spicy Ranch Water: Muddle jalapeno slices in the bottom of your glass before building the cocktail.
