Ingredient notes

  • Bratwurst: Make sure to use uncooked brats.
  • Buns: Brat buns are larger than hot dog buns, but either will work just fine.
  • Toppings: You can serve your cooked brats with or without a bun. If using a bun, load it up with ketchup, yellow mustard, dijon mustard, sauerkraut, pickle relish, or chopped onion.

How to smoke brats at 250F

  1. Preheat the smoker: To start, preheat your smoker to 250F.
  2. Smoke the brats: Place brats directly on the grill grates. Close the lid and smoke for 45 minutes, flipping once halfway through.
  3. Check for doneness: Brats are done when the internal temperature reads 160F.
  4. Serve and enjoy: Heat the buns in the smoker for a couple minutes then plate it up.

Serving suggestions

Since you've got the pellet grill going, serve smoked brats with a side of smoked corn on the cob, smoked baked beans, smoked green beans, or even smoked potato chips.
