Ingredient notes
- Cranberry juice: Grab a jug of cranberry juice at your grocery store, typically located in the juice aisle or the refrigerated section.
- Tequila: Use your favorite tequila! I prefer blanco or silver tequila, but my husband likes reposado.
- Lime juice: Fresh lime juice is a must for any margarita recipe!
- Sweetener: I typically sweeten margaritas with agave nectar but I’ve been on a simple syrup kick lately after making a big batch. An orange liqueur like triple sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier will work too, plus it'll add a touch of orange flavor.

- Rim the glass: Pour coarse salt (or sugar for a sugar rim) on a plate. Cut a lime wedge and rub it around the edge of the glass. Dip the glass into the salt to rim the edge of the cocktail glass.
- Shake margarita: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the cranberry juice, tequila, lime juice, and sweetener. Place lid on top and shake until chilled and shaker is frosty.
- Enjoy immediately: Strain the margarita into the glass over ice. Cheers!
Tips and variations
- Garnish your Christmas margarita with fresh cranberries, sprigs of rosemary, and a lime wedge.
- Make it non-alcoholic by using a zero-proof tequila alternative.
- Get your margarita ice cold by shaking the cocktail together for at least 30 seconds.
