Hash brown waffles are a quick, easy, and fun take on traditional hash browns by making them crispy and creamy in the waffle maker.

If you're looking for unique breakfast ideas, this is the recipe for you!

Hash browns made in the waffle maker are always a hit for breakfast or brunch! Serve them alongside tofu scramble, cinnamon rolls, or blueberry muffins for the ultimate vegan breakfast.

Why you'll love this recipe

  • This savory waffle recipe calls for just 2 main ingredients!
  • These vegan potato waffles are gluten free, plus no eggs or dairy needed.
  • They're perfect for a make-ahead meal.

You may be wondering why the heck you would want to cook frozen hash browns in a waffle iron? Well, I've got a couple reasons for you.

Waffle maker hash browns are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. As a bonus, the waffle iron does the work for you.

So you can sit back and enjoy that cup of coffee as your breakfast makes itself.

Equipment

I love my trusty waffle maker! We received it as a wedding gift over 5 years ago and haven't had any issues.

It's durable and makes thick belgian waffles that turn out perfect every time!

Ingredients

  • Shredded potato: I suggest using frozen shredded potato or refrigerated hash browns.
  • Oil: I recommend avocado oil, however you can use any cooking oil or plant based butter.
  • Seasoning: Keep it simple with salt and pepper or use your favorite spice blend!

How to make hash browns in waffle maker

Start by thawing the shredded potatoes then set aside.

Once thawed, preheat the waffle maker and coat with non-stick cooking spray.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded potatoes, oil, and seasoning.

Working in batches, evenly distribute the shredded tater mixture on the preheated waffle maker.

Close the waffle maker tightly and let cook until browned and crispy, about 10-15 minutes.

Enjoy immediately or let cool on a wire rack until ready to eat or store.

How to serve

I enjoy serving these vegan hash browns with avocado and an assortment of condiments like ketchup, buffalo sauce, or hot sauce.

Storage and reheating

Store in an airtight container or bag in the fridge for up to 1 week or freezer for up to 3 months.

Tips for success

Once the frozen potatoes have defrosted, take the time to drain any liquid and remove excess moisture.

Waffle irons vary, so use the cooking time as an approximation. Go ahead and peek at the hashbrowns as they cook.

You want to make sure they're cooked through and golden brown!

Recipe FAQ
