Thrive Market Frozen Foods Review + Price Comparison

I compared 17 frozen foods from Thrive Market to Kroger and Whole Foods to see how the prices stack up. Thrive was cheaper than Whole Foods and offered several specialty vegan brands not available at Kroger. Here's my Thrive Market frozen foods review, including what I bought, how I'm saving money, and what's worth buying.

I've had my Thrive Market membership for 2 years and regularly order both curated pantry and frozen items. It's stocked full of top-selling organic frozen fruit, snacks, plant-based options, meat, and more.

If you've ever walked through the frozen aisle at the grocery store trying to find allergy-friendly, vegan, or healthier convenience foods, you know how quickly the price adds up. I looked at the exact same products, from pretzel buns and vegan taquitos to dairy-free lasagna and cauliflower veggie fries. The results showed clear price differences.

Across the items I compared, Thrive Market was about 26% cheaper than Whole Foods and 12% cheaper than Kroger. For families that rely on specialty foods, those savings can add up quickly!

The prices are often better than grocery stores

I compared the same frozen foods across Thrive Market, Kroger, and Whole Foods, and Thrive came out cheaper most of the time. Even when Kroger was close on price, Whole Foods was usually significantly higher. When you're buying multiple specialty items, that difference adds up fast.

What I like about Thrive Market's Frozen Foods

Thrive Market's freezer section is full of allergy-friendly options in one place! One of the biggest advantages is simply how many dietary options are available. Plus, instead of scanning ingredient labels across multiple stores, you can simply filter by dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, vegan, and more.

That makes it easier to find quick meals for specific dietary needs. For example, here are some of the frozen items I ordered. Many of these are harder to find consistently in local stores.

  • Pretzilla Soft Pretzel Burger Buns
  • StarLite Cuisine Vegan Chick'n Taquitos
  • Woodstock Organic Butternut Squash Ravioli
  • Actual Veggies Super Fries (my toddler loves these!)
  • Banza Vegan Margherita Pizza
  • Once Upon A Farm frozen pasta meals

I've also shared a full list of my favorite vegan products at Thrive Market if you want more ideas beyond the freezer section.

It saves a lot of time

Another reason I've been using Thrive Market more is convenience. Instead of loading  the kids in the car and visiting multiple stores, hoping specialty items are in stock, and reading labels in the aisle… I can add everything to my cart online and have it delivered right to my doorstep. For busy families, especially those managing allergies, that time savings can be just as valuable as the price savings!

Who Thrive Market frozen foods are best for

Frozen delivery has worked well for me. Thrive Market ships frozen items with insulated packaging and ice packs. Everything I've received so far has arrived still frozen, even in the Texas heat. I just transfer it straight to the freezer when my box arrives. Thrive's frozen sections work best for people who:

  • Need allergy-friendly foods (dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free, etc.)
  • Prefer organic convenience foods
  • Want plant-based or vegan options
  • Are trying to save time on grocery shopping
  • Buy specialty items regularly and want lower prices than Whole Foods

If your cart is mostly specialty products, the membership can pay for itself pretty quickly.

Who it might not be for

Thrive Market isn't the best option for everyone. You might prefer regular grocery stores if:

  • You mainly buy basic frozen foods like chicken nuggets or frozen veggies
  • Your local store already carries good store brands at lower prices
  • You only want to shop in person

If you're comparing Thrive Market to meal delivery services, I've also reviewed Purple Carrot, Splendid Spoon, and Wildgrain!

How I'm saving money with Thrive Market

For me, the savings come from a few things:

  1. Lower prices on specialty brands
  2. Not impulse-buying at the store
  3. Ordering pantry and frozen foods together

Instead of making extra trips to multiple stores for allergy-friendly items, I can just add them to my Thrive order. Based on my comparison, I'm typically saving 10-25% on frozen foods compared to local grocery stores, especially compared to Whole Foods.

If your household regularly buys allergy-friendly, vegan, or organic frozen foods, Thrive Market can be a great value. The prices are often lower than major grocery stores, the selection is solid, and the convenience of having specialty items delivered to your door is hard to beat.

For me, the easy dietary filtering alone makes the $5/month cost worth it, but the weekly sales, free gifts, price matching, and free delivery on qualifying orders make it a no-brainer.

  • Best for vegan and allergy-friendly frozen foods
  • Great for convenience with delivery and easy filtering
  • Not ideal for basic frozen staples you can find cheaper in-store
