Homemade Taco Seasoning


We take Taco Tuesday very seriously in our household. It started back when we were in college and Zack lived with his roommate, Spencer. Every Tuesday I would go over to their apartment and we would make ground beef tacos with rice and beans. It became a tradition that we took with us after we graduated. Zack and Spencer still lived together and I lived alone in my studio apartment not far away. I continued going over every Tuesday night to make dinner, but we started switching it up a bit. Instead of ground beef, we would try ground turkey or chicken! Ground beef will forever be my fave though!

Now that Zack and I live together, we have to be more thoughtful about how much food we’re making if we don’t want leftovers for the following two weeks. We started buying pre-seasoned chicken to cook on our contact grill, but this week we’re going back to ground beef! Heck yes!!

In the coming weeks, I would love to learn how to make homemade taco rice. But for now, I’ll focus on homemade taco seasoning!

Homemade Taco Seasoning

This recipe is for 1 pound of ground beef – Alter as needed.

1 tablespoon chili powder
1½ teaspoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Dash of salt


1. Mix all the ingredients together, while cooking 1 pound of ground beef.

2. Sprinkle in while browning your meat.

3. If you make extra, be sure to store in an airtight container.

Enjoy this homemade taco seasoning in lieu of the store-bought package! You can adjust the seasoning depending on how you enjoy your tacos. Add a dash of cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes, increase the amount of salt or pepper, the variations go on!
