Purple Carrot Pros and Cons
What I liked about it:
- The biggest benefit of Purple Carrot meal delivery service is the time saved on meal planning, grocery shopping, prepping, and cooking.
- Spoiler: The meal kit recipes are good!! (Read my individual reviews below.)
- I also really appreciate the new-to-me ingredients. It's fun to try new things and experiment with items I might not have picked otherwise.
- One thing I was hesitant about was how fresh the ingredients would be. I'm happy to report that everything was perfectly fresh, even days after delivery.
- I love how user friendly the Purple Carrot website is, especially if you manage food allergies, like me!
- All of the meals are vegan (dairy free and egg free) and a majority of them are gluten free, too.
- Lastly, I was pleasantly surprised by the serving sizes! Purple Carrot is great for portion control.
What I didn't like about it:
- It's not a dealbreaker, but keeping up with weekly deliveries can be challenging. Fortunately, Purple Carrot lets you easily pause your subscription or skip weeks.
- The head of cauliflower was missing from the buffalo cauliflower meal kit. I contacted support via chat, and they issued a $15 credit. While that was appreciated, I still had to make an unplanned grocery trip.
This applies to most meal kits and delivery services, but the packaging is quite substantial. - Delivery days vary by location, arriving on Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Ours comes on Wednesday, but I'd prefer Saturday or Monday for better meal prep timing.

Purple Carrot Meals
Right off the bat, I was seriously impressed with the Purple Carrot menu. The meals look super flavorful, fresh, and used interesting ingredients.
I appreciated how simple the steps to make each dish were and that each recipe came with estimated cook times.
Keep reading for a look at my recent order, along with review of each dish. If you're curious, I cooked all the meal kits using the Our Place Mini Perfect Pot and Mini Always Pan!
Our Place Always Pan - Mini 8.5-Inch
Our Place Mini Perfect PotI love using this 2.5-quart pot for sauces, soups, and pasta. Its ceramic nonstick coating makes both cooking and cleanup effortless.
Crispy Lemon Chick'n
This crispy lemon chick'n with brown rice and gai lan came together with crispy tofu in a delicious sauce. I was able to swap this meal with the general tso's tofu and I'm so glad I did, since we've been having my homemade version on repeat. My husband and I have hadn't tried gai lan (Chinese kale) before so I'm thankful for Purple Carrot for making the introduction through this tasty recipe.
The pan sauce was super thick and flavorful. I was surprised how much the torn tofu resembled actual chicken. If you're not a fan of that, just slice the tofu instead. Overall, I would recommend this meal and look forward to recreating a similar recipe soon.

Gnocchi Al Pesto
Gnocchi al pesto with charred green beans and lemon zucchini was absolutely delicious and hands down the best meal I made, despite how it photographed. We love serving pillowy gnocchi with homemade dairy free pesto so we were both really looking forward to this meal.
I prepared this for lunch instead of dinner and it was super filling but light enough to not weigh us down for the rest of the day. I will 100% be recreating this. The allepo pepper gave this dish an incredible taste when tossed with fresh lemon juice and herby pesto.
This meal calls for peeling the zucchini into ribbons but I didn't have the time or patience for that, so I quartered it and tossed it in with the green beans to cook down a little bit.

Broccoli Cavatappi
Broccoli cavatappi with tomatoes and mint pesto felt familiar to other dishes I've made in the past but was still good. The highlight for me was the mint pesto, which I'll have to add it to my collection along with kale pesto and almond pesto! I was unsure this would be enough to fill up both me and my husband but we were pleasantly surprised at the serving size once cooked.

Roasted Red Pepper Power Bowls
I've been super into roasted red peppers after making my vegan roasted red pepper pasta, so this was another meal I was excited to try out. The roasted red pepper power bowls with herby vinaigrette was another winner in my book! If I made this meal again, I would cook the shallot down to make it less intense.

Falafel Bowl
I had high hopes for the prepared vibrant falafel bowl with turmeric orzo and harissa carrots, unfortunately I think this would be better as a meal kit. The orzo was tasty and I look forward to recreating that in the future.

Artichoke and Mushroom Ravioli
The vegan artichoke and mushroom ravioli with kale and romesco had great flavor but unfortunately the texture kinda fell apart. It was still tasty and good for a quick meal, but I wish the pasta held together a bit better.
