If you enjoy my air fryer crescent rolls, you'll love this recipe.
Pigs in a blanket are juicy, savory sausages wrapped in buttery, flaky crescent roll dough. They are traditionally baked in the oven but using an air fryer cuts down on cook time, plus gives them an unbeatable texture.
They're light and flaky on the outside and warm and tender on the inside. Talk about quick and easy comfort food.
This crowd pleasing snack that under 30 minutes from start to finish. Great for kids and adults alike!
Equipment
This air fryer is convenient and easy to use. It's large enough to cook in big batches, yet compact enough to fit on the countertop.
Ingredients
- Refrigerated crescent roll dough: Any brand will work! If you're dairy free like me, you'll be happy to know that many brands including Pillsbury, Trader Joe's, and Annie's offer non dairy crescent rolls. Just be sure to check the labels!
- Little smokies: Little smokie sausages are great because they are bite sized and full of flavor. If you don't have any, simply substitute with hot dogs. You can even cut them into similarly small sized pieces.
How to make pigs in a blanket in the air fryer
This recipe for lil smokies pigs in a blanket makes 24 servings, but of course you can double or triple the recipe depending how many people you're feeding.
Step 1: Prepare the crescent roll dough
Unroll the crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 narrow triangles.
A pizza cutter or dough scraper helps cut the dough into perfect strips.
Step 2: Roll little smokies in crescent rolls
Place the mini sausage on the wide side of the crescent roll slice and roll or wrap the dough around. Repeat with remaining pieces.
Step 3: Arrange pigs in a blanket in air fryer basket
No preheating is necessary but you will have to make this recipe in batches. How many batches depends on the size of your air fryer.
Arrange pigs in a blanket in air fryer basket in a single layer, leaving enough space for the dough to rise and expand.
Step 4: Air fry and enjoy
Air fry pigs in a blanket at 300F for 9-10 minutes. They are done when the crescent tops are golden brown.
Continue to air fry in batches. Since the air fryer will be warm from the previous batch, you may have to reduce cook time by a minute or so.
No air fryer? No problem? To bake pigs in a blanket in the oven instead, bake at 375F for 12 minutes, or until golden brown.
What to serve with pigs in a blanket
Pigs in a blanket are super tasty on their own but a dipping sauce really takes them to the next level. Some of my favorites include mustard, ketchup, or bbq sauce!
If you're making these as snacks for a barbecue, potluck, or tailgate, pigs in a blanket are delicious served alongside french fries, tater tots, roasted veggies, skillet queso, or macaroni salad.
How to store leftovers
Store cooked and cooled pigs in a blanket in a sealed bag or airtight container for up to 1 week in the refrigerator or for up to 3 months in the freezer.
To reheat leftovers, air fry at 350F for 3-5 minutes, until warmed through. If air frying frozen pigs in a blanket, do not thaw but add an extra 1-2 minutes to the cook time.
