These easy baked apple cider donuts come together with 10 ingredients, in about 30 minutes. They’re dairy-free, egg-free, vegan-friendly, and can easily be made gluten-free. Top with a cinnamon sugar coating for a delicious fall-inspired dessert!

After posting my baked pumpkin donuts recipe, several of y’all requested apple cider donuts be next on my list. Well here we are, just in time for Thanksgiving!

These baked donuts come together with minimal prep work. Simply reduct the apple cider down, whisk everything together, pipe into donut pan, and bake. These donuts can be enjoyed fresh from the oven, drizzled in icing, or coated with a delicious cinnamon sugar mixture.

FAQ and Recipe Substitutions

What kind of dairy-free milk should I use? I suggest plain unsweetened almond milk or soy milk.

Can this recipe be adapted for gluten-free diets? Yes, use your favorite gluten-free all-purpose flour.

Can I use melted coconut oil instead of vegan butter? Yes, absolutely!

How do I find vegan sugar? Look for labels that include words like organic, unrefined, natural, or raw on the package. Here’s a great option for vegan-friendly sugar.

Don’t have a doughnut pan? Here’s how to create a makeshift donut pan, using a muffin pan and foil.

Baked Apple Cider Donuts

These easy baked apple cider donuts come together with 10 ingredients, in about 30 minutes. They're dairy-free, egg-free, vegan-friendly, and can easily be made gluten-free. Top with a cinnamon sugar coating for a delicious fall-inspired dessert!
Course Breakfast, Dessert, Snack
Prep Time 20 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons melted vegan butter
  • 2 tablespoons dairy-free milk

For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating

  • 2 tablespoons melted vegan butter
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Start by reducing the apple cider in a small saucepan on the stove. To do this, bring apple cider to a boil, then reduce to a simmer, stirring occasionally for about 15 minutes. Once reduced to about 1/2 cup, remove from heat and let cool.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg. Pour in reduced apple cider, melted vegan butter, and dairy-free milk. Stir to combine, being careful not to over mix! If the batter seems too dry, add extra dairy-free milk in one tablespoon at a time.
  • Pipe the batter into a prepared donut pan, filling about 3/4 of the way full. Bake at 350F for about 10 minutes. Flip baked donuts onto a cooling rack and let cool completely!
  • To make cinnamon sugar coating, melt vegan butter. In a small bowl, whisk together sugar and cinnamon. Brush the tops of each donut with melted butter and dip into the cinnamon sugar.

These look and sound delicious, especially for fall! I love donuts, but with this pandemic, I haven’t had one forever as we don’t do any takeout at all. I need to pick up that donut pan and start baking. Can’t wait to try really soon 🙂
