We’ve slowly been putting each room in our first house together. Emphasis on slow, but I wanted to share a little update since I’m so happy with what we’ve done so far. Here’s to more living room progress!

When we moved into our first home, a little over a year ago, I had high hopes for blogging the entire process of filling it. I gave little updates over on Instagram and within my Tea Time posts (here and here), but never started dedicated progress and update blog posts.
Since I had to start somewhere, I decided our living room or kitchen would be the best to share first. We certainly aren’t finished with this room but I am absolutely thrilled with our sofa set, clock, and plant babies! Here’s a little before and after to show the progress, so far.

In the future, I think adding a rug under the seating would add a cozy feel to the space. What do you think?
We have a coffee table not in use right now that would fit and match quite well. If we brought that into the living room, then we could arrange the ottoman similar to a sectional couch setup.
I’m not gonna lie though, I love kicking my feet up on the ottoman during movie nights!

Most of what you see has either been given to us by family members or bought on clearance. From the beginning, we both have had a very clear vision of what we want our house to look like.
I went back and forth on wanting floating shelves above the couch, but ultimately decided we needed a statement piece. For months I debated a large print or oversized clock. I knew the clock would need to be functional but also silent. We were able to score this beauty at Hemisphere’s going out of business sale.
I can’t wait to show y’all more home updates and how this space comes together! Where do you find home decor and furniture?

Here are my top three tips for decorating a new space:
1. Add plants β real or fake! We have three live plant babies and I love them so much. In the living room, we have a peace lily, sansevieria, and a large tropical plant that I got at Kroger for $20.
2. Focus on lighting β even if you have the best natural light during the day. Rather than using the overhead light at night, a floor lamps offers a more relaxing feel and can really pull a corner together.
3. Make it your own! It’s pretty obvious that I love the color blue… I decided to keep everything pretty neutral but add in pops of navy. Your style may be brighter though π
