Vegan Food at Scarborough Renaissance Festival

Yep, you read that right! Vegan food at Scarborough Renaissance Festival – it exists! Thankfully those of us on a restricted diet can still enjoy a fun day at the faire with our friends, family, and a full belly.

I have lived just north of Dallas, Texas for over 10 years but never made it out to the Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie, until this year! My husband, Zack and I have talked about going for the past few years but never make it in time. The festival runs until Memorial Day Monday, so mark your calendars now!

Step back into a 16th Century English village spread out across 35 acres! Wander through over 200 village shoppes, feast on food, and enjoy the live entertainment at every turn. My main mission was to soak up all the renaissance fun while searching for allergy-friendly and vegan food! There are twelve pubs and taverns, plus food booths throughout the park. When we arrived, we decided to get a lay of the land, then circle back for shows and a late lunch.

After watching The Joust and The Fire Whip Show, we continued wandering around and browsing past the jewelry, leather goods, and art. You could easily lose track of time by popping into each shoppe and exploring each vendor.

There are five food court areas throughout the festival, plus a bakery and specialty food carts. You can find handmade pasta, fresh fruit, pastries, and the largest food-on-a-stick selection in Texas! There are plenty of options when it comes to food offered at the festival.  However, if you’re on a restricted diet it’s best to check the menu offerings online beforehand! All the gluten-free options around the park are listed out, so it’s super easy to grab a screenshot before you enter.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that you can find vegan food at Scarborough Renaissance Festival. As for the options, you have a few! Choose from salads at the Rose N Crown Restaurant, baked potatoes at Crown & Royal Kitchens, and veggie wraps at West Market Wraps & Queens Kitchens. Pasta Palace and the German food booths may also have items that can be made to order. I appreciate that if you have food intolerances or allergies or follow a restricted diet, you can still have a fun day at the faire and not feel left out when lunchtime rolls around.

I opted for the vegan veggie wrap from Queens Kitchen. The wraps include your choice of a spinach herb or tomato basil tortilla, lettuce, spinach, cucumber, sprouts, and sun-dried tomatoes. When you order, you indicate which veggies you want and what you want to be left off! With so many creative food options offered around the park, I’m hopeful that the plant-based items will stay on the menu and maybe in years to come more creative dishes will make an appearance.

  1. I wish we had something like that in Boston – looks like a ton of fun. And it’s good that people are recognizing different diets. I am not vegan but I am pescetarian so I know it can be limiting.

  2. This looks like such a fun festival! I haven’t been to a renaissance festival since I was in middle school. May have to change that soon. I love that you were still able to find vegan options.
