This quick and easy tomato sauce is perfect for elevating simple pasta dishes! Don’t let the fear of “homemade pasta sauce” deter you – you’ve got this!
Onion Lover’s Tomato Sauce
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 yellow onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 (28 ounces) can diced tomatoes
3 sprigs of fresh basil
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 bay leaf
1. In a large pot over medium heat, add olive oil. Toss in onions and garlic and saute until the onions are soft and translucent, about 15 minutes.
2. Add the diced tomatoes, basil, sugar, salt, and bay leaf. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, uncovered for at least 30 minutes. Stir occasionally, until you have your desired consistency. Taste and add more salt, if needed.
3. To elevate the dish, add an additional 1-2 tablespoons olive oil and stir.
Enjoy and store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to one week or frozen for up to one month.
