Homemade Soft Pretzels are warm and fluffy, made with under 10 ingredients. Incredibly easy to make, fill your home with the fresh baked bread aroma!
Who doesn't love a warm, fluffy pretzel? Instead of waiting to treat yourself at the mall, make your own and know exactly what's in them!
I love a classic salted pretzel but I know cinnamon sugar would be amazing too.
These are best served right out of the oven, but they did save for a few days in a plastic bag on the counter. I whipped up a simple honey mustard dipping sauce and we couldn't get enough of it–the sauce paired so well with the salty knots.
Homemade Soft Pretzels
Ingredients
Dough
- 2 ½ cups bread flour (all-purpose flour works too)
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 packet instant dry yeast
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegan butter
- Kosher salt for topping
Instructions
- In the bowl of your stand mixer, dissolve yeast in warm water. Using the dough hook, mix in bread flour, brown sugar, and salt. Let combine for about 5 minutes.
- Remove the dough from the bowl and spray the bowl with cooking spray. Place the dough back in and cover with a piece of plastic wrap. Let rise for at least 30 minutes, or until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 425 F and line two baking sheets. Once the dough is ready, punch down and place it on a lightly floured workspace. Divide the dough into six equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope. Make pretzel shapes with each rope then place pretzels on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil with a couple tablespoons of baking soda and brown sugar stirred in. Before placing pretzels on the baking sheet, carefully drop each pretzel into the water for 30 seconds. After that, place on baking sheet.
- Melt the butter in the microwave and brush onto pretzels. Sprinkle with salt. Bake for about 10 minutes, keeping your eyes on them. If desired, sprinkle additional salt over pretzels once out of the oven.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!

I'll have to try making these with a gluten free flour. I always loved soft pretzels. My mom used to make soft pretzels when friends came over for a movie or game night. They are so quick to make, and even faster to disappear!

Oh, that sounds great!! 🙂 Haha, agreed!

This looks so amazing, do you have to use vegan butter???
Jenna | The Urben Life
Thank you! Nope, I just use it because I'm lactose intolerant.
