Combine beer and tomato juice for the best Homemade Michelada. This drink is light, refreshing, and slightly spicy!

Have you ever tried a Michelada? It's a delicious way to spice up your beer for happy hour or brunch.

A Michelada is a popular beer cocktail made from beer, tomato juice, hot sauce, worcestershire sauce, and lime juice.

Why you'll love this michelada recipe

  • A Michelada is savory and flavorful.
  • It's the ultimate alcoholic beverage for happy hour or brunch!
  • This simple drink is easy to adapt. Make it spicier or less spicy depending on your preference.

Ingredients

  • Light Mexican beer: Any light Mexican beer will do!
  • Tomato juice: Clamato is typically used for its extra seasoning, however I prefer to use regular or spicy tomato juice instead.
  • Lime juice: Fresh is best!
  • Worcestershire sauce: This gives your Michelada that savory taste.
  • Hot sauce: Add as much or as little as you like!

Best beer for michelada

To make the best Michelada at home, use your favorite light Mexican beer. I've enjoyed Micheladas using Modelo, Tecate, and Corona.

Best hot sauce for michelada

Use your favorite hot sauce for your Michelada! Some good option are Tabasco, Tapatio, Valentina, or Cholula.

How to make a michelada

  1. Salt the rim of your beer glass by running a lime wedge around the top. Dip into salt then set aside.
  2. Add tomato juice, lime juice, worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce to the glass.
  3. Pour the beer in and enjoy!
  4. I typically garnish with an extra lime wedge or slice, but feel free to dress your Michelada up similar to how you would with a Bloody Mary.
