Taco Tuesday 101

tacotuesday101

There’s a few key parts to a successful and filling Taco Tuesday…

The filling – ground beef, ground turkey, veggies, fish, fajita chicken or steak?
The rice – will you make it from a bag, cook it on the stove, or use the rice cooker?
The beans – black beans, pinto beans, refried beans?
The extras – guacamole, salsa, cheese, hot sauce?
The drinks – margaritas or a cerveza?

Once you can answer these questions, you’ll be well on your way to serving up a delicious Taco Tuesday dinner! I enjoy cooking on Tuesday’s so much because both my husband and I are in the kitchen together. He chops everything and makes the guac while I do the rice, beans, and meat–whoever is done first prepares the drinks!

So find yourself a sous-chef and let’s get started! I’m going to walk you through my typically Taco Tuesday prep. In the past we’ve done ground turkey tacos, sometimes we’ll do fajita or shredded chicken tacos, but my favorite by far is ground beef–so that’s what we’re going with!

Step One

Go put on your favorite radio station and have your sous-chef chop everything you’ll need for the rice, guac, toppings, and anything else.

Step Two

Homemade Taco Rice by The Urben Life Blog

I used to love using store-bought rice. Throw it in the rice cooker or on the stove and it’s done in 20 minutes or so… But I find it so much more satisfying when I make our own homemade taco rice on the stove. To each his own!

Step Three

Once you’re rice is covered, start cooking your beans on low heat.

If you’re making homemade taco seasoning, grab a small bowl and start mixing so you’re not rushing at the last minute.

Step Four

Now it’s time to cook the ground beef.

Begin to brown the meat, while stirring the beans, and not touching the rice until the timer sounds!

Step Five

Once your ground beef is cooked, add the taco seasoning and stir. =

Around this time your sous-chef should be finishing up the homemade guacamole and the timer for the rice should be sounding.

Decide who’s making the margaritas or pouring the cerveza and warm up those tortillas.

And that’s it! Serve it up and enjoy!

Happy Taco Tuesday 🙂
